Lessons learned from Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) : Strategic Deploymen, Situational Awareness, and Army Transformation

An independent research project I’ve done for the Taiwanese Army, which is later published on Infantry Quarterly [Bubing jikan] (the article can be accessed here. Text in Chinese). In this article, I argue that SBCT, as a by-product of US Army Transformation, has greatly improved the Army’s strategic deployment capability and tactical situational awareness in the battlefield. However, the advantage gained from speed comes with the price of much-weakened armour protection and hence unit survivability. In addition, the possible replacement of M198 howitzer in SBCT’s field artillery battalion with tracked NLOS-C puts the whole-wheeled brigade concept into doubt.
